A Poem A Day 22

Déjà Vu

Sometimes I pretend
I miss you,
remember the moments
that seemed real,
tunnel my recall
to unconfuted fantasy,
and wish backwards
for what wasn’t.

We could pretend,
skin on skin,
to be joined;
play at percipience
and once again
know intimately, our
separate, hollow yearning
to be known.

A Poem A Day 20

Lovers, once entwined
wonder not how it ended
but how they ever...

A Poem A Day 14

Dear Reader

If I knew I would die today
and only had one chance to say
what’s on my mind;
my last hurrah, my final shot;
my chance to give it all I’ve got
What would I say?

I’d tell you that the world is made
not of matter, rules or trade,
or even physics,

but of every small kindness
making threads of connection
to hold us joined;
that caring is not naïve, and
compassion never wasted.
(Even on cynics).

I’d tell you this with my last breath
because only love
can outlive death.

Kerry Miller.

I'm rhyming again...

A Poem A Day 3.

End of the Affair.

Today I am cleaning,
although it is too hot
for such exertion.

Leaning in the humid air
over steaming suds
I wipe my brow
of sweat, and the crusted
refrigerator shelves
of sticky substances
long overdue.

The air is sultry
and thunder rumbles in the distance.
A change is coming.

In the laundry
I wash his smell
From last night’s linen

The refrigerator gleams.
A feeble breeze stirs the washing,
And I wait for rain.
